The African Squirrel Monkey is a member of the order of primates with scientific name, saimiri sciureus. These monkeys are only as big as squirrels when they grow into adults, weighing between 700 and 1,100 grams and are only about 10 to 14 inches long. The male African squirrel monkey is biologically larger than the female, and has longer canines.

One may commonly find the African squirrel monkey in rainforests. They like to be within close range from vegetation since the latter protects them from preying birds.
African squirrel monkeys are frugivorous (preference for berries) and insectivorous. Occasionally, they also feed on tree frogs and mollusks.

The female African squirrel monkey is left to care for her young, which explains why social interaction is usually dominated by the female species. Like humans, the female African squirrel monkey can only give birth to a singular offspring. Male African squirrel monkeys only socialize with the females during mating season.

Hedgehog is an amazing spiny mammal with stiff pointed spines covering its entire back. They are endemic to Africa, Asia, and certain parts of Europe and they are introduced in Australia and New Zealand. No living species are found in North America. Hedgehogs are nocturnal and insectivorous animals. Urchin and hedge-pig are other names as per the folklores.

Hedgehogs are distinctive spines are essentially hollow hairs that are stiffened by keratins (fibrous structural proteins). Its spines are neither poisonous nor barbed and cannot be easily removed from the body of hedgehogs. Spines come out only once when th animal sheds baby spines and replaces it with adult spines, the process being known as ‘quilling’. Under extreme stress or during sickness, hedgehog may loose some of the spines. Hedgehogs possess a unique ability to roll into a tight ball, thereby causing all the spines to point upwards. This ability provides them the best defense against their predators (foxes, wolves and mongooses). They feed on variety of diets including insects, mice, rodents, snakes and eggs. Hare or jack-rabbits are species of leporids (species of rabbits) that are well known for fast speeds. They can often run at speeds up to 45 mph. Hares tend to live alone or in pairs. In African folklores, hares are considered as tricksters and evil characters, often associated with witches.

Hare is normally a shy animal that may change its behavior in spring season. During spring, hares can be often seen chasing each other around the meadows to attain dominance and more access to breeding females. Occasionally, hares are also spotted boxing with one another during spring. Unlike other rabbits, hares do not bear their young ones below ground in a burrow. Instead, they prefer a shallow depression or flattened nest made from grass. Hares are generally larger than rabbits with longer ears and black markings on their fur. Diet of hare is very much similar to that of rabbits. Like rabbits, hares are also prized as food items and are prepared in the same manner namely, roasted or taken apart for breading and frying.
