Impala is a medium sized African Antelope living in the open plains of Africa. They are commonly found in African Savannah, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Angola and Uganda. The animal gets name from a Zulu language word Impala.

Impalas weigh around 70-80 kg. They are reddish brown in color, have lighter flanks and white underbelly with a marking in the shape of alphabet ‘M’ on its rear. Male Impalas have lyre-shaped horns that can reach up to 90cm in length. Female Impalas do not have any thorns. Impala have a tendency to herd in large groups of more than 100 animals. They feed on grass, shoots, foliage and leaves. They tend to feed on whatever is readily available without waiting to search for food at one place. They frequently move from one place to another. When frightened or startled, the whole Impala herd starts leaping about in order to confuse their predators. They can jump distances of more than 9 meters and leap up to 2.5 meters high. Lions, leopards, wild dogs, cheetahs and spotted hyenas prey on Impala.
