Barbour’s Rock Mouse is a genus of rodents that are native to Southwestern Africa. Their natural habitats subtropical or tropical dry shrub lands and rocky areas. The species is endangered by habitat loss. Other species, known as Pygmy Rock Mouse, are endemic to Angola, Namibia and South Africa. They make their habitats in rocky canyons, cliffs and other areas where there are numerous cracks, fissures and overhanging ledges.

Rock Mouse have a sharp lower point to their V-Shaped infra-orbital canal. Their molar teeth are intermediate between the ancestral cricetid style tooth and dendromurine style tooth. With their sharp incisors, rock mouse can gnaw wood, break into food and bite their predators.  Rock Mouse is generally herbivorous mammal. They usually feed on seeds, plants, vegetations, fruits, nuts and sometimes on insects and small vertebrates. Rock Mouse is a small-sized animal and has a very short breeding cycle. They have the ability to gnaw and eat vast variety of food items.

Jackals belong to any three small to medium sized species of the family canidae. Jackals are found in Africa, Asia and southeastern Europe. Jackals display a similar ecological niche and characteristics of Coyote in North America. There are four common species of Jackals Golden Jackals, Side-Striped Jackals, Black-backed Jackals and Ethiopian Wolf. Despite their outwardly similarities, all the species are not closely related to one another. Jackals are commonly seen animals on the African Safaris. They are also found outside of national parks and near human settlements.

Jackals have long legs and curved canine teeth that are suitable for hunting small mammals, birds and reptiles. With their big feet and fused leg bones, they can run up to a speed of 15 km/h for extended period of time. Jackals are most active at dawn and dusk. They weigh around 8 kg and the height is around 40 cm. Jackals are scavengers and omnivores that hunt small sized animals for their food.

Hippopotamus or Hippo is a large plant-eating African mammal. Hippo is the third largest land animals after white Rhinos and elephant. Hippo, a semi-aquatic animal, is generally found living in rivers and lakes in Sub-Saharan Africa in the groups of 5 to 30 animals. Despite their resemblance to pigs, their closest living relatives are whales and porpoise. Adult males can weigh from 1.8 to 3.2 tons and females can weigh from 700 kg to 2 tons. Hippos are one of the most aggressive animals of the world and most dangerous animal in Africa. They can run at a speed of up to 50 km/h while running for short distances.

Hippos have a bluish grey body with a pink underbelly, large head and stumpy legs. They have a barrel-shaped torso, enormous mouth and teeth, hairless body and a tremendous size. Hippos generally remain in water and mud and go out only for grazing grass. Total population of Hippos in Sub-Saharan Africa is around 125,000 to 150,000, out of which Zambia has about 40,000 Hippos and Tanzania has another 30,000 Hippos. Poachers are often looking out for hunting Hippos for meat and ivory canine teeth.

Giraffe is an African mammal that is tallest among all the living animal species and largest ruminant animals. Giraffe weighs around 1.5 to 1.8 tons and the height is 4.8 to 5.5 meters. They are known to have lived up to the age of 28 years. Giraffes are found in the grasslands and open woodlands of African Savannah from Chad to South Africa. They prefer areas with acacia growth as they mainly feed on acacia trees. They are found to be eating mostly at dusk and dawn and search denser foliages for their food. They drink large quantities of water at a time and therefore can spend long periods of time in dry and arid areas.

Giraffes have a distinct walking style and can reach up to a speed of 55 km/h. While walking, they rhythmically move the head backwards and forwards to pull forward its weight. They have long necks with anchor muscles to hold the neck. Giraffes sleep in standing position. They have long legs with forelegs are slightly longer than the hind legs. Each Giraffe has its own unique pattern of markings on its coat. Their tongue is blue and can extend up to 40 cm. Giraffes generally move in a group of about dozen members.
