Jackals belong to any three small to medium sized species of the family canidae. Jackals are found in Africa, Asia and southeastern Europe. Jackals display a similar ecological niche and characteristics of Coyote in North America. There are four common species of Jackals Golden Jackals, Side-Striped Jackals, Black-backed Jackals and Ethiopian Wolf. Despite their outwardly similarities, all the species are not closely related to one another. Jackals are commonly seen animals on the African Safaris. With their big feet and fused leg bones, they can run up to a speed of 15 km/h for extended period of time. Jackals are most active at dawn and dusk. They weigh around 8 kg and the height is around 40 cm. Jackals are scavengers and omnivores that hunt small sized animals for their food.
